I want you to take a look at the transformation that we made take place at Southern Home when we laboriously refinished a deck that had not been loved for fifteen years. Boards had to be replaced, mold and mildew had to be removed, old finish had to be removed, broken pickets beneath the hand-rails needed to be repaired. What a job!
I am going to start with what the deck ended up looking like. If you have a wood deck on the back of your home, more than likely at some point, you are going to take a look at it and realize that you have a couple of wood boards that need to be replaced. You probably were planning to do the work yourself, but got really busy with "life" and here it is four years later and the wood is gray, mold and mildew are growing all over it, and you remember being told that it should have water sealant on it, but you never got around to that either.
That is where we come in. We make old decks look new again! We identify warped wood, or wood that is splitting or cracking and replace those old wood boards with new select wood. We replace your old wood with the finest, Select, freshly-milled wood. This is wood that contains no moisture and can be sealed within a few days, not months.
Then, we speak to you the customer and determine what type of sealant you are looking for. We have products we use everyday, like Sherwin Williams Super Deck, Ready Seal, or Cabot Australian Timber oil. We ask important questions about how you want the wood to look when the work is completed. We help you decide what product looks best for your situation and what you are looking for.

Above is an example of how somebody can get too close to wood on a deck or fence when they are Pressure-washing the wood. This is not a wanted outcome. You should be cleaning wood using a 25 degree tip. If you are inexperienced and you cut into your wood or somebody else's, you are going to need to fix a mistake like this. The only way is to use a 80 grit piece of sandpaper and when the wood is dry, lightly sand.
This kind of damage can be repaired with simple sanding. If the cuts were much deeper, there may be a need to replace the wood board where the damage occurred. All wood should be cleaned gently and efficiently, and the best way to do that is by applying gentle pressure during the cleaning process, using proper soaps and light chemicals, and then finishing with a high-quality water sealant.
Accidents do happen! The important thing to know is that an accident can be repaired, and understand that all wood can be made to look completely new again. Take a deep breath, shake off any negative feelings, and soon you will be enjoying a beautiful wood deck!

There are a lot of important decisions to make when spending good money when making a decision on what to use for protecting your wood. You want to make a good decision and not waste money on something that does not work very well.
"Should I use oil-based water sealant, or should I use Acrylic water-sealants?"
Oil products condition the wood, and seal for protection against the elements. Acrylics can be applied immediately, they protect well but they do not saturate and condition deep within the wood strands.
