"OLD DECKS NEED SIMPLE WOOD REPAIR AND A GOOD SEAL OR STAIN TO MAKE THEM LOOK NEW AGAIN"" OLYMPIC, SIKKENS, CABOT, CWF

This was a fairly simple repair for a very old deck on the back of a small house on Grace Street in Richmond, VA. The customer had a wooden deck that was more than twenty years old.

It was a fairly simple refinish. We used new wood to replace old, rotted and warped wood boards. We explained to the customer that it was difficult to make older wood and new wood look exactly the same, but regardless, it would definitely look better. We suggested using a product made by Olympic called Maximum, 4 year water-sealant and stain with a preservative that contained Linseed oil. It would help to preserve the older wood that was not severely damaged and help the wood cracks pull back on themselves and strengthen the wood. Most damage occurs from Richmond, Va's high humidity and heat during the summer and by freezing rain and snow and ice during the winter. It puts a terrible toll on wood surfaces and causes the wood to rot.

Linseed oil has been used for hundreds or even thousands of years to preserve wood on boats throughout history. We did the job right and with time, the new wood and old wood will begin to look the same. Job well done by, Southern Home Wood Deck cleaning and staining.
